One of the worst things anyone with Lyme disease or its associated illnesses has to deal with is psychological and mood issues.
Lyme disease, especially chronic Lyme disease, disrupts many systems in the body. Among those are the hormonal or endocrine systems (hypothalamus, pineal, pituitary, thyroid and parathyroid, thymus, adrenal glands, pancreas, and sex hormones (ovaries and testes)). See the hormonal section for more details. When hormones are not regulated, we can experience psychological distress, commonly experienced as anxiety and/or depression.
